All the trans news that fits! (and some that never will)
I did not know Kayden Clarke and neither did most of you.
That doesn’t matter, now.
Less than a month ago, Kayden Clarke posted a YouTube video expressing his frustration with a medical and legal system that was unable to see him. He wanted Testosterone.
On February 4, police officers answering a call of a reported suicide attempt saw a distraught young man, a kitchen knife and fired their guns.
Kayden lived at the intersection of transgender, Aspberger’s Syndrome and other challenges. He was 24, lived in Mesa, AZ. He also lived at the intersection of societal fear and anger and ignorance.
Like many others, I caught this story yesterday and did not talk about it because . . . well, because I really hate this shit and I was really, really mad at the world.
Hate and anger from the Transgender community is not going to fix all the broken institutions in our society that force Kayden and thousands of others to live invisible lives.
Only good laws can do that.
Hate and anger from the Transgender community is not going to change the hearts and minds of those who, rather than accept us and respect us, would prefer to see us beaten, humiliated, and murdered.
Only education and awareness can do that.
Shame on you if you do not support fully inclusive civil, legal and medical rights for Transgender people.
Shame on you.
Now, a thousand prayers deep in to the earth, my home,
a thousand prayers into the sky
so that it may rain and our hearts heal
and a thousand gardens grow beneath the stars. ~ Namaste
RIP Kayden Clarke.
